Distracting Self

In our modern times we can easily distract ourselves from any difficulty with our phones.

Instead of going through the difficult process of grieving the death of a loved one, you can look at funny memes and short videos.

Instead of dealing with the difficulty of working, you can amuse yourself with video game points, gambling or get rich quick schemes.

Instead of going through the difficulties of having a girlfriend, you can find instant sexual gratification with lustful and pornographic content.

But the difficulty is still there, waiting to be resolved.

Life situations can be very difficult to process, but when we do we can resolve them and find healing.

As a guy I feel very disconnected with my emotions much of the time. I find I have to take extra care with any emotion I have and not just brush it off. Cause when I ignore my negative emotions they can lead me to sin to try and cope.

I’m learning to sit with the sadness more. Then I seek to write or talk about it with my wife and/or God.

I’ve noticed I also like listening to music that express something of the feeling I’m feeling. I guess as a way of artificially feeling like someone undestands me and as a way of expressing my feelings through someone else. But while it can feel comforting temporarily I don’t think it is helpful in the long run.

The wisdom of the prudent is to give thought to their ways, but the folly of fools is deception.

Proverbs 14:8

Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

Matthew 5:4
